Tractor-Trailer Carrying Candy Catches Fire On Beltway

A tractor-trailer carrying candy caught fire on the Capital Beltway in Silver Spring late Monday night, officials said.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A tractor-trailer carrying candy caught fire on the Capital Beltway in Silver Spring Monday night, officials said.

The fire broke out at about 11 p.m. just past the Georgia Avenue exit, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service spokesman Pete Piringer said. The accident caused lane closures past exit 31.

The tractor-trailer was "well involved" in the flames, but the driver made it out of the vehicle, Piringer said.
