MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — The trucker convoy is circling the Capital Beltway again on Thursday, and this time Senator Ted Cruz is riding in the leading truck, The Washington Post reported.

“There ain’t no ignoring a senator riding in the lead truck,” Group Organizer Brian Brase said earlier, according to The Washington Post. “That’s basically an endorsement of what we’re doing.”

Leaders from the People's Convoy had met with Cruz and Senator Ron Johnson earlier this week, while the rest of the group circled the Capital Beltway. The group says it is near Washington, D.C. to protest COVID-19 mandates and the national state of emergency.

The People's Convoy has been staying in Hagerstown, and took the day off Wednesday due to rain.

"We have not had any disruptions in the city other than a little more traffic at times coming through on Rt. 40," said Hagerstown Police Chief Paul "Joey" Kifer in an email to Patch earlier this week. "Even with that, it has not been enough of an increase to cause any problems. The speedway where they are mustering is west of our city by approximately 5 miles and the route they take to come and go is also outside of the city to our west."
