Woman Shot To Death In Silver Spring By Ex-Boyfriend: Police

A Derwood man has been charged with murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend. The New York woman was fatally shot Sunday in Silver Spring.

SILVER SPRING, MD — A Derwood man charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend led police on a chase Sunday, according to Montgomery County police.

Officers called to the 1700 block of Imperial Drive in Silver Spring for a report of shots fired in the area found Monique Charles, 47, of Brooklyn, New York, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene, a police news release said.

Charles was leaving the location on Imperial Drive when her ex-boyfriend — 47-year-old Earl Walker— approached and shot her multiple times, authorities said. A witness saw the shooting and identified Walker as the suspect, and gave police a description of the car Walker was driving when he fled.

Officers who went to Walker’s residence in Derwood saw him driving away. When authorities tried to stop Walker, he kept going. After a chase, Walker crashed and rolled his car near Route 108 and Rocky Road.

Walker was taken into custody and treated at an area hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries. A gun was found in Walker’s car after the crash.
