Catalytic Converter Thefts Reported in Timonium

What's the number one holiday item for burglars and thieves this holiday season? 

It may be your car's catalytic converter. 

Five catalytic converters were stolen from a locked, fenced-in parking lot at Tyre's Auto Repair last week, . 

The precious metals found within the auto part are more precious than gold, the New York Times reported in 2008. "[It's] one of the most expensive small parts of the auto world," according to the article. (The article from 2008, does not reflect the current rise in gold prices.)

In April of this year, USA Today reported that thefts of the emissions-control device were on the rise. 

While it may be too soon to attach that grim statistic to Lutherville-Timonium—unlike the —Patch sites nationwide have reported a surge in catalytic converter robberies.
