Local Student-Athlete Commits to Play Softball at Gettysburg

Parents, tell us about your all-star athletes.

Towson High senior Carrie Shrewsbury has committed to playing softball at Gettysburg College.

Shrewsbury, a Lutherville resident, notched two home runs and two triples in four pre-season scrimmages for the Generals.

Patch named Shrewsbury a , for her top-level athletic ability, her attention to her studies and all-around work ethic.

The four-year varsity shortstop, and three-year captain, also helps coach the under 16 Lutherville-Timonium Rec Council Lazers.

“And she helps out with her father's other team, the LTRC Challengers, a special-needs softball team for intellectually disabled children and adults,” Patch contributor Joanna Bell wrote in 2011. “She has been involved with the team for six years, coaching the players on their skills and helping them through their games.”

Shrewsbury, whose father said she received 21 offers from schools before committing to Gettysburg, also plays for the Western Howard County Fever—a nationally competitive club team.

“I’ve had to give up a lot for softball, like birthday parties, and movies, and going on dates,” Shrewsbury said in 2011. “But I’ve gotten so into the sport these days.”

It appears her social sacrifices have paid off.
