5 Tornadoes Confirmed In MA Amid Severe Weekend Storm

Some towns experienced significant damage.

MASSACHUSETTS — The National Weather Service confirmed five tornadoes touched down in Massachusetts on Saturday.

The NWS confirmed two tornadoes in Paxton and ones in Holden, Berlin, and Stow. The team first confirmed that there were only two tornadoes in Paxton and Holden on Monday, but released more information on Tuesday.

The tornadoes had an EF rating of 1, with estimated wind speeds ranging from 94 to 104 mph.

The severe weather was associated with a severe thunderstorm that caused significant damage to the surrounding towns.

"Damage was primarily uprooted trees...soft and hardwood trees with sheared trunks. Some trees fell on or near houses and vehicles, but fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities reported," according to the NWS report.

Nearby towns in central and Western Massachusetts experienced significant damage. In Warren, police reported six tree incidents, including three on power lines and one on a vehicle. All of the incidents happened in a short period of time, police said.
