MA Police Officer Killed While Responding To Crashes On Route 146

The investigation remains ongoing.

UXBRIDGE, MA — A police officer in Massachusetts was fatally struck in Uxbridge shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Uxbridge Police Officer Stephen LaPorta was assisting a driver following multiple crashes on Route 146 Northbound when he was struck. Officer LaPorta died from his injuries, police said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer involved in the accident was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, while the motorist LaPorta was helping wasn't physically injured.

Officer LaPorta served the Uxbridge community for two years. He leaves behind a wife and one child, officials said.

Route 146 Northbound in Uxbridge was closed while the crash was being investigated. State police and MassDOT were still on the scene at around 9 a.m.
