MA Retailers To Close Stores Next Year: See List

Stores across Massachusetts are preparing to shut their doors in 2026.

MASSACHUSETTS — Store closures are set to hit the state in the coming year, with many retailers planning to shutter locations across Massachusetts.

Monro Inc.

Automotive services company Monro Inc. is expected to close 145 stores nationwide. The closures of "underperforming" stores will occur in the first quarter of 2026.

There are 22 locations in Massachusetts that could close, including Newton, Medford, Lowell, Worcester, and Waltham.

Yankee Candle

The parent company of Rubbermaid, Sharpie, and Yankee Candle announced that it will lay off 900 people from its international workforce.

The company also said it would close about 20 Yankee Candle stores in the U.S. and Canada in January, but did not say which stores would shutter. There are 15 Yankee Candle locations in Massachusetts, including storefronts in Natick, Braintree, Peabody, and Somerville.

A popular outdoor equipment store, REI Co-op, has confirmed that it plans to close its only Boston location next year, according to Boston Business Journal.

The location, REI's only store in Boston, is at 401 Park Dr. in Fenway. BBJ reported that the chain is facing declining sales.

TD Bank

TD Bank is expected to close dozens of locations along the East Coast, and one on Cape Cod. It said it would close Massachusetts locations by Jan. 29, 2026. Branches that could be closing include ones in Beverly, Chicopee, Centerville, Lowell, Pittsfield, and Peabody.

Macys

Macy's announced in January that it would close 150 underperforming stores amid declining sales. Macy's closed around 66 stores in 2025, according to Business Insider. It's unclear if Massachusetts stores are among those that will be shuttered.
