MA Sets One-Day Record For Coronavirus Cases
Meanwhile, Gov. Baker continued to stress the importance of getting vaccinated and boosted, saying the risk of serious infection is low.

MASSACHUSETTS — The Department of Public Health on Wednesday reported 7,817 new COVID-19 cases, the largest one-day total of confirmed cases in Massachusetts.
According to the state's daily dashboard, there were 33 deaths attributed to the coronavirus and three probable deaths. That brings the total number of deaths in Massachusetts to 19,963 since the start of the pandemic.
The average age of patients who died from COVID-19 was 75 years old, according to the state.

There are currently 1,621 patients hospitalized for the virus. Of those, 353 people are in the ICU and 206 are intubated.
Meanwhile, vaccination rates continue to rise, as the number of fully vaccinated people sits above 5 million. The state reported nearly 40,000 new booster doses on Wednesday, which Gov. Charlie Baker said lessens the risk of serious infection amid the spread of the omicron variant.

"There are going to be a lot more cases because omicron is very contagious, but people need to understand that the vaccines and the number of people in Massachusetts that have gone out and gotten vaccinated and gotten boosted — their risk is extremely low," Baker said.
