Scammers are threatening to arrest residents claiming to be from the treasurer's office, according to officials.

MASSACHUSETTS — State officials are warning residents to be on guard for scam phone calls impersonating the state treasurer's office.

The calls being made to state residents are telling resident they owe money to the treasurer, and may be arrested for drug possession, officials said.

"The Treasurer and her office want to ensure that no citizen is taken advantage of as part of this scam. The Treasurer’s office does not call people to collect money," Treasurer Deb Goldberg said in a news release.
