MASSACHUSETTS — Moisture in every possible meteorological form will wash over Massachusetts this weekend, according to forecasts.

Temperatures will generally rise across the state starting Friday, and dew points will reach into the 70s in many places in turn. That means the air will feel pretty muggy during the afternoon hours when temperatures peak.

At the same time, thunderstorms will be moving across the state, with rain probabilities peaking around noon Saturday, especially between Worcester and Springfield. There will be a chance of rain — heavy at times — pretty much all weekend, however, with high rain chances again Sunday afternoon.

The dank weekend is a preview of a generally wetter pattern predicted to stick around into early July, according to the National Weather Service.

"40-50% chance of above normal precipitation into the first week of July for much of New England. While there will be intervals of dry weather during this period, a wetter than normal pattern is expected," the weather service said of the long-range outlook into July 2.
