Therapy Dogs Land At Logan Airport To De-Stress Travelers

Travelers are encouraged to stop and pet the animals.

BOSTON, MA — Travel can be stressful, and Boston Logan International Airport is trying to find ways to improve its passengers' experience.

The new program, called "BOS PAWS," introduced trained therapy dogs to the airport to reduce passenger stress and boost the overall travel experience. Massachusetts Port Authority drove the initiative, which encourages travelers to stop and pet the animals.

The new airport additions include a Giant Schnauzer named "Remington", a West Highland Terrier named "Buster" and a French Bulldog named "Waffles."

“Boston Logan Airport is often the first and last impression that millions of travelers have of Massachusetts, and now, thanks to this new program, it’s also one of the most welcoming,” said Gov. Maura Healey. “We want everyone who travels through Logan to know that we prioritize mental health here in Massachusetts."

BOS PAWS will provide therapy dogs and their handlers throughout the terminals to create a de-stressing moment for passengers. Interacting with animals has been shown to decrease levels of cortisol, a stress-related hormone, according to the NIH.
