These Are The Best Middle Schools In MA: U.S. News Ranking

MASSACHUSETTS — Jonas Clark Middle School in Lexington is the best public middle school in Massachusetts, according to a new ranking from U.S. News & World Report.

U.S. News researchers based the 2026 ranking of the nation’s best public middle schools on publicly available data from the U.S. Department of Education. The researchers ranked more than 23,000 middle schools in its 2026 report, which was released Tuesday.

The top 25 public middle schools in Massachusetts are:

1. Jonas Clark Middle School, Lexington
2. WM Diamond Middle School, Lexington
3. Pierce Middle School, Brookline
4. Lawrence Middle School, Brookline
5. Boston Latin School, Boston
6. Roland Hayes Middle School, Chestnut Hill
7. Hopkinton Middle School, Hopkinton
8. Carlisle School, Carlisle
9. Cohasset Middle School, Cohasset
10. Blanchard Middle School, Westford
11. Pollard Middle School, Needham
12. Ottoson Middle School, Arlington
13. William H. Lincoln Middle School, Brookline
14. Weston Middle School, Weston
15. High Rock School, Needham
16. Wellesley Middle School, Wellesley
17. Edith C. Baker Middle School, Chestnut Hill
18. Lincoln School, Lincoln
19. Wayland Middle School, Wayland
20. Charles E. Brown Middle School, Newton
21. Sarah W. Gibbons Middle School, Westborough
22. Pioneer Charter School of Science II, Saugus
23. John F. Kennedy Middle School, Somerville
24. Ephraim Curtis Middle School, Sudbury

The ranking methodology considered student proficiency in math and reading/language arts state assessments, adjusting for student backgrounds and core subject achievements. In cases of ties, student-teacher ratios were used as a deciding factor.

The rankings are intended as an evaluation tool to give parents a snapshot of how well schools provide a high-quality education and prepare students for a successful future, LaMont Jones, managing editor for Education at U.S. News, said in a news release.
