What was supposed to be MA's first Amazon Fresh location never materialized. Will a new property owner push it across the finish line?

There was a brief time when Braintree was supposed to have the first Amazon Fresh grocer in Massachusetts.
That was in 2021 and, now in 2025, that store remains in limbo. It still is, but does a recent real estate transaction make an opening more likely?

Waterstone Properties Group recently acquired 86,000 sq. ft. of space in the Marketplace at Braintree development, a deal worth $30 million, according to the company.
In a news release, Waterstone said that a still-to-be-announced national grocery concept would be going into the space, but didn't confirm which chain that would be.

Plus: Holy Cow Ice Cream Cafe is coming to 3rd Ave Burlington. The shop is planning to open in the spring, according to the 3rd Ave website.
Holy Cow currently has locations in Peabody, Gloucester, Dennis, and Salem. The shop includes a variety of eclectic flavors like Lucky Charms and Salty Himalayan.
