2. BLOOD PRESSURE AND WELLNESS CLINIC: Seniors, come to the Senior Center at 9:30 a.m. for a blood pressure and wellness clinic where the Acton Public Health Nursing Service will have a registered nurse available to check blood
pressure, pulse, weight, and discuss any medication, nutritional, or health related questions. No appointment necessary.

3. L-S BASEBALL NIGHT AT LOTUS BLOSSOM: Why cook when you can eat out after the long (Memorial Day) weekend and support your local student athletes? Head over to Lotus Blossom tonight and mention Lincoln-Sudbury baseball to receive 20 percent of your purchase. The 20 percent will be donated to support the L-S baseball program.  This event will take place from 5-9 p.m. This includes dine in, take out, and delivery. 4. HOLIDAYS HELD TODAY: Today is Amnesty International Day. Amnesty International Day recognizes the need to protect human rights around the world. The Amnesty International organization strives to accomplish these goals by providing awareness and recognition of the issues. They work to publicize local and regional problems, and to arouse citizens, governments and politicians to action.

5. THIS DAY IN HISTORY:

  • 1863 — Robert Gould Shaw, leading the first northern all-black regiment, leaves Boston for the Civil War.
  • 1929 — The first all-color, full-length talking picture, On With the Show!, debuted.
  • 1934 — The Dionne quintuplets were born in Ontario, Canada.
  • 1957 — Baseball owners voted to allow the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants to move to Los Angeles and San Francisco, respectively. Many New Yorkers still haven’t recovered. See other baseball city and nickname changes.
  • 1987 — Mathias Rust, a 19-year-old pilot from West Germany, landed his private plane in Moscow’s Red Square. He was arrested and sentenced to four years in a labor camp, but was released after just one.
  • 1997 — Linda Finch completed Amelia Earhart's attempted around-the-world flight.
  • 1998 — Pakistan staged nuclear tests in response to India's nuclear tests two weeks earlier.
  • 2003 — President Bush signed a $350 billion tax cut into law; the third largest tax cut in U.S. history.
