Acton Fire Dept. Puts Out Assabet Crossing Deck Fire
A fire pit in the middle of the wood deck was likely the cause.

ACTON, MA — Acton fire crews put out a deck fire on Sunday morning before it spread to the two-and-a-half-story wood frame home. The fire started on the lower-level of the deck from a fire pit that was sitting in the center of the deck.
The fire happened at a home on Assabet Crossing. The home had a multi-level deck and the fire pit where the fire started was in the middle of the lower-level wood deck.
The residents of the home were able to safely make it out of the house before firefighters’ arrived and no injuries were reported. The family was not displaced and were able to stay in the home once the fire was put out.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Acton Fire Department.
"With the summer weather, people are eager to be outside and enjoy a fire pit, but it's critical to do it safely. If you're using a fire pit, it should be placed on a flat surface that is non-combustible, and always keep a fire extinguisher or hose nearby," said Chief Hart. "Great work on the part of those who responded and helped to prevent the fire from spreading and causing additional property damage or injury."
