Andover COVID: Positivity Rate Drops To 9.13%

The town is one of 96 in MA where the positivity rate decreased; 217 communities had their positivity rate increase, 23 had no change.

ANDOVER, MA —The Town of Andover saw a few key coronavirus metrics head in the right direction when the Department of Public Health (DPH) released its latest data on Thursday.

According to the data, Andover administered 1,106 tests in the last two weeks, with 101 of them coming back positive. That is a positive rate of 9.13 percent, which is lower than the last time the statistics were released.

Andover is one of 96 Massachusetts cities and towns that saw their positive rate decrease. There were 217 cities and towns that saw their positivity rate increase, and 23 had no change.

The statewide seven-day positive test rate increased from 7.87 percent last week to 8.17 percent Thursday, according to the DPH. For three straight weeks, the positivity rate has remained higher than it was when the original omicron subvariant began losing steam at the end of January.

Andover recorded 89 COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks, bringing its total to 7,774 cases during the pandemic. Chelmsford's most recent average daily case rate was 17.4 per day, a decrease from the previous week.

The state data showed that Andover was one of 150 cities and towns in Massachusetts in which the COVID-19 case rate decreased. There were 150 communities with an increasing COVID-19 rate, and 34 with no change.

In the state, the weekly average case count was 1,122.7 daily cases, down from 1,200.3 last week. At the early January peak of the omicron surge, the state reported more than 23,000 average daily cases.

As for statewide deaths, there were 6.7 deaths per day over the last week, up from 5.6 per day a week ago.

The DPH on Thursday also reported 10,250 new coronavirus cases in the last week, as well as 42 new deaths and 5,131 vaccine doses administered.

The latest state vaccine report showed the number of fully vaccinated residents rose to more than 5.42 million. Booster doses were given to about 3.15 million residents.
