Andover Opens Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Survey

ANDOVER, MA — Andover's survey on racism and other forms of bigotry in town opened Tuesday, six months after a town employee was filmed approaching a resident of Dominican descent while she was checking her mail.

The 15 to 20 minute survey asks residents about their experience with and feelings about racism in town, their comfort dealing with town departments, how the town addresses concerns and more.

Town officials created the new diversity, equity and inclusion office, Andover DIVERSE, in June, against the backdrop of that incident as well as nationwide and local Black Lives Matter protests.

In September, an investigation concluded that the town employee was "not racially motivated."

The town hired the consulting firm VISIONS, Inc. to help design and run the survey. The town also planned to conduct focus groups.
