Andover Police Arrest Three, Seize Three Kilograms of Heroin

Over the weekend, the Andover Police Department arrested three men for allegedly trafficking heroin, seizing more than 200 grams from a hotel room in town.

JOSE BAEZ, AGE 24, OF HAVERHILL is charged with:
• Trafficking a Class A Substance Over 200 Grams (Heroin)
• Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Revoked Registration
• Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle

DORYN TAVAREZ, AGE 28, OF NEW YORK, N.Y. is charged with Trafficking a Class A Substance Over 200 Grams (Heroin).

MELVIN PERALTA, AGE 27, OF NEW BRUNSWICK, N. J. is charged with Trafficking a Class A Substance Over 200 Grams (Heroin).

PERALTA also has two warrants out of New Jersey, one for Trafficking Heroin and the other for Armed Robbery and Illegal Possession of a Firearm.

On July 28, just before midnight, Andover Police Detectives, along with the Massachusetts State Police, and members from the Drug Enforcement Administration, executed a search of a room at a hotel in town, where they located BAEZ, TAVAREZ and PERALTA.

According to a press release, Andover Police received information of possible drug activity at the hotel. Through an investigation, which included surveillance of the suspects, where BAEZ was observed driving a motor vehicle, police were able to determine the exact room in the hotel where they believed drug activity was occurring.

Inside the hotel room, police found three kilograms of heroin, with an estimated street value of $210,000.
All three men were arrested. They were held overnight at the Middleton House of Corrections, each on $100,000 bail and were scheduled to be arraigned today at Lawrence District Court.

"This was a superb job by our Andover Police Detectives, with assistance from State Police and the DEA," Chief Keefe said. "Their work led to the removal of a dangerous opioid and drug dealers from our community."
