Automated Trash Collection Starts Soon In Andover

The town is sending out new carts for trash and recycling as the automated program begins this summer.

ANDOVER, MA — Andover will be starting automated trash and recycling collection July 1.

The town will begin delivering trash and recycling carts to eligible households Monday. The process will take two to three weeks to complete.

Republic Services will handle collection. The new system requires residents to use standardized town-issued carts for both trash and recycling.

Each eligible household will receive one 65-gallon trash cart and one 95-gallon recycling cart, according to the town.

Residents may request an additional cart if they require additional capacity, according to the town's website. Resident may purchase an additional 65-gallon trash cart for a one-time cost of $75, and request an additional recycling cart at no cost after September 1.

The Department of Public Works will send service alerts to routes through the Solid Waste app when containers are scheduled for delivery.

To check for service alerts, visit andoverma.gov/solidwaste and enter your address. You can also sign up to be notified by clicking "get a reminder."

If you are already using the app or signed up for notification, you will receive these automatically.

The switch to automation is expected to improve efficiency, worker safety, and long-term cost management, the town has said.
