Credit Union Donates $15K Toward YMCA Project
The Andover/North Andover YMCA expansion project was given at $15,000 boost by the Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union.

The today announced the Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union (MVFCU) has pledged $15,000 over three years for the YMCA’s expansion project.The donation is in addition to the MVFCU’s annual gift to the YMCA of $15,000.
will enable the YMCA to strengthen the foundations of community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The MVFCU, which has supported the YMCA for nearly 10 years, is also dedicated to serving the community to the fullest, making the donation to the expansion project an extension of its own commitment to the region.
“As a longstanding organization in the Merrimack Valley, our mission is to exceed our member’s expectations while simultaneously serving the community,” said Peter Matthews, CEO of the Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union. “In many ways, this is what the Andover/North Andover YMCA’s mission is. When we support a cause or organization, we want to ensure our members will benefit, and I can confidently say that supporting the YMCA expansion project will have significant impact on the Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union members, as well as the greater community, for years to come.”

Founded in 1955, the MVFCU is a community credit union serving the Merrimack Valley with more than 40,000 members with nearly $440 million in assets. The organization has a corporate commitment to the YMCA on an annual basis, and is involved in many of the YMCA’s initiatives and programs from the SRO Thanksgiving Dinner and Youth & Government Program to Healthy Kids’ Day and the Lawrence Team Achiever’s Program. The MVFCU’s employees raise funds for the YMCA annually, with proceeds from its own golf tournament, amongst other initiatives, benefitting the YMCA.
“One program that caught my attention years ago was the YMCA’s support of single mothers, offering them the ability to have a daycare facility so they were able to work,” Matthews continued. “That resonated with us early on as we have many single mothers at the Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union, and we recognize how important it is for them to have help raising a family on their own. We truly believe in what the YMCA is doing, and are proud to play a role in enabling the Y to serve the community for the next 40 years and beyond.”

The Andover/North Andover YMCA’s expansion and renovation will double the YMCA’s current space with expanded state-of-the-art facilities. Plans include a new early childhood development center, a human performance lab, a youth and teen sports and recreation center, an active healthy living center for older adults, expanded health and wellness space, an expanded aquatics facility, and new space to extend the services fueled by partnerships and collaborations.
“The Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union has been a great partner of ours for many years, and we are thrilled to have their generous support for our expansion project,” said Stephen Ives, Merrimack Valley YMCA CEO. “The project’s goal is to better serve our community by making healthier lives achievable for everyone.
