Driver Charged in Death of Pregnant Peirce Teaching Assistant

The Florida woman who drove the car that killed pregnant Peirce teaching assistant Alanna DeMella earlier this year was arrested Wednesday after police found her blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit at the time of the crash, according to news reports.
Rosa Maria Rivera-Kim, 34, of Plantation, Fla., turned herself into police Wednesday afternoon on charges of driving under the influence - manslaughter with impairment, driving under the influence - manslaughter with an unlawful blood alcohol level, and driving under the influence for property damage, according to Broward Country Sheriff's Department records.
On March 18, Rivera-Kim's audi . DeMella, who was seven months pregnant at the time, died in the crash. She and her husband Michael had won the trip in a church competition.

At the time of the accident, Rivera-Kim allegedly told police she had been out to dinner and drinks with her husband prior to the accident, but they got into an argument and she left before she finished her drink.
But blood tests taken in late April found Rivera-Kim's blood alcohol content was 0.24, three times the legal limit at the time of the crash, according to a Sun-Sentinel report (Read the full report here).

Rivera-Kim's bail was set at $10,000 bond, which was being processed as of Wednesday night, according to Broward County Sheriff's records.
