Parts of Mass Ave Will be Closed Monday and Tuesday
The materials that will be applied to Mass Ave will be hot on application and cannot be traversed by vehicles without significant damage.

MassDOT and its contractor for the project, J.H. Lynch, have scheduled overnight paving on Monday, Sept. 14 and Tuesday, Sept.15, as part of the Massachusetts Avenue reconstruction project. Portions of Massachusetts Avenue will close to traffic on those two nights.
The project’s paving crew will apply two layers of material to Mass Ave as a preparatory step to final paving of the roadway.
Work will take place on the eastbound (towards Cambridge) side of the roadway on the 14th with the westbound lanes addressed on the 15th thereby maintaining the flow of through traffic.

In case of inclement weather, work will be pushed ahead by one night.
During this operation access to some side streets will be closed to all traffic.

To minimize the impact of these closures, work will be staged as follows:
- Temporary traffic control measures, barrels, cones, etc. will be deployed at approximately 8 p.m. on both nights.
- Installation of the SAMI layer and intermediate pavement will begin between 8:30 and 9 p.m.
- On the night of September 14th, work will take place in sections, one after the other: Massachusetts Avenue eastbound from Pond Lane to just east of Grafton Street. o Massachusetts Avenue eastbound from just east of Grafton Street to the Alewife Brook Parkway.
- On the night of September 15th, work will take place similarly, on the westbound side: of Massachusetts Avenue from Pond Lane to a point just east of Winter Street. o Massachusetts Avenue from just east of Winter Street to the Alewife Brook Parkway.
The roadway will be open for the morning commute no later than 6 a.m. both days.
Please also note: The materials that will be applied to Massachusetts Avenue on Monday and Tuesday nights will be hot on application and cannot be traversed by standard passenger vehicles without significant damage. Please do not drive through any area marked off with barrels, cones, caution tape, etc. At times, you may be directed the wrong way down a one way street by members of the Arlington Police Department. All normal traffic conditions including one way streets will return to force at 6:00AM the following morning. All overnight parking restrictions will be enforced
