A tractor trailer caught fire around 3 p.m. and burned on Route 2 westbound near Dow Avenue in Arlington, closing the major state road to the west. The blaze was across the highway from Stoney Brook Road in Belmont and near the eastern end of the Belmont Country Club. The fire, which fully engulfed and destroyed the truck, was fought by units from Arlington Fire and Belmont Fire. The fire was knocked down by 3:10 p.m. There were no injuries, according to State Police, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
