Newton Annual WinterFest Event Taking The City By Storm
The event is organized by Spark Newton.
NEWTON, MA — The city’s main community events organizer is gearing up for the return of one of its most notable yearly events.
Spark Newton, formerly known as Newton Community Pride, has announced the details of its fifth annual WinterFEST that will take place throughout the course of an entire weekend beginning on Friday, Jan.23. The event typically includes events and entertainment that fall into the categories of music, art, performances, outdoor exploration, family-friendly activities, and interpersonal connection.
“It’s a joyful reminder that creativity, community, and shared experiences can brighten even the coldest days,” Spark Newton Executive Director Blair Lesser Sullivan said in a statement. “We’re proud to create spaces where neighbors can gather, explore, and celebrate what makes Newton special.”

The event begins with its kickoff special at the Newton Centre Green at 5 p.m. The inaugural event is slated to include an ice sculpture carving demonstration, a cappella performances, interactive glow experiences, free hot chocolate, and a blanket drive for Welcome Home. Welcome Home is a nonprofit organization that collects and redistributes a variety of household items for those in need.
Saturday’s main event is the Winter Walk through Cold Spring Park that begins at 10 a.m. Once that concludes, an array of events for people of all ages will open up such as a live jazz performance near the ice sculpture coffee bar in the courtyard at 28 Austin St. Newtonville Books at 10 Langley Road will be hosting a children’s storytime, Derby Flowers at 1280 Centre St. will host a floral arts workshop, indoor activities will be going on at Newton Free Library at 330 Homer St., and an indoor community soup social will be held at the Hyde Community Center at 90 Lincoln St. with live music from the band White Collar Crime.

The busy weekend will culminate on Sunday with a screening of the film Abominable at West Newton Cinema at 1296 Washington St., followed by more live music from the Stacey Peasley Band at the New Art Center. The Newton Free Library is hosting an event for the second straight day with a snowglobe creation course.
