Attleboro Man Wins $1M From Lotto Ticket In Get-Well Card
Alexander McLeish was recovering from open-heart surgery and opened a get-well card with three lottery tickets inside. The rest is history.
ATTLEBORO, MA — An Attleboro man recovering from open heart surgery won $1 million in the lottery, the Massachusetts State Lottery reported in a news release.
Alexander McLeish was in the hospital recovering from his surgery when he received a get-well card from a friend that included three instant tickets, according to the Mass Lottery. As McLeish scratched off the “Your Letters” area of the ticket, the first three letters were his initials: A, W, and M. The word that appeared on the bottom row of the winning puzzle was “HEART.”
McLeish, who says he won $1,000 many years ago on a ticket he received from the same friend, claimed his prize at the Mass Lottery headquarters in Dorchester on Friday. He will receive a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes.
