Attleboro could soon have a new water park as a development company expands its search for a new location to southeastern Massachusetts.

Cascade Water Park LLC has been searching for a viable location to build a water park in Rhode Island, and is also considering southern Massachusetts. The project is estimated to cost $14 million, and the park should attract around 100,000 people a year, Cascade said.

The developers say the prefer Rhode Island, and the city of Warwick in particular, as it is centrally located, but with few possible locations they are expanding their search into the towns of Attleboro, Wrentham and Seekonk, and are checking out other undisclosed locations. In the past, water parks have been proposed in Wrentham and Mansfield but have been shot down by residential opposition of those who would be neighboring the sites.

The developers are looking at locations that have 20 acres of open land and easy access from the highway. The proposed project will be a 15 acre outdoor park and parking lot with the possible addition of a 5 acre indoor park if the project is successful.

Cascade Spokesman David Cascioli said the company has set up a website and facebook page for the coming project. The developers say they are “a group of professionals with combined experience in amusement parks, general business development, and entertainment industries who have come together in order to put a plan in place — to ultimately bring back a summer time recreational facility to Rhode Island.”

The project’s facebook page says the developers are launching a crowdfunding campaign and are looking for volunteers to help.
