Barnstable Hit-And-Run: Driver Charged, Police Say
Barnstable police said Hudson Aguiar ran over a pedestrian and waited 43 minutes to call 911.

BARNSTABLE, MA — A Barnstable man who hit a pedestrian and waited 43 minutes to call for help has been charged, police said Sunday. Hudson Aguiar, 21, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash, negligent driving and having defective vehicle equipment.
The crash happened in Hyannis March 17 at about 3 a.m. Aguiar was driving a BMW sedan with two passengers when he struck Newman Galati, 26, of Barnstable, on Sea Street. Galati became wedged under the vehicle as Aguiar continued driving for several hundred feet, police said. Aguiar finally realized something was wrong and stopped his vehicle and backed up, revealing Galati underneath, police said. Despite seeing the injured victim, Aguiar drove away to his destination on Oak Neck Road, police said. He then drove back to the crash scene and finally called 911 — some 43 minutes after the crash, police said.
Galati was seriously injured and on Monday was still at a Boston-area hospital recovering from his injuries, police said.
