Barnstable Tom Wallace American 12-year-old Little League All Star Team Cape Cod and the Islands District Champions

Next Step: Massachusetts Sectional Tournament.

The Championship Barnstable Tom Wallace American League All-Stars are heading to the Massachusetts Sectional Tournament.

For the second year in a row, this Barnstable Little League team has won the title of District 7 Champions.

This year the tournament included 16 teams from the Cape and Islands in a double elimination format. The Barnstable boys played five games knocking out their opponents in a few games by more than 10 runs. They had three shutouts and had 66 runs for and five runs against.

The Championship game was held Monday, July 11, in Wareham against Sandwich. It was a close game for Barnstable.

Griffin Burke pitched for the first four innings. There were two runs scored by Sandwich on passed ball situations. Chris Holcomb came in to pitch the last two innings allowing no runs. Tyler Jones, catcher for Barnstable, had a three run homerun in the 5th inning to put Barnstable in the lead 3-2. The boys were able to hold off Sandwich in the last inning and the final out of the game was an outfield catch by Bobby Harrington.

The Barnstable team now advances to the Sectional Tournament which begins July 20.

The “Road to Williamsport” as it is sometimes called, continues with the 4 Sectional Champions playing each other for the title of Massachusetts State Champion. That team will go to Bristol, CT on August 5 to represent MA in the New England Regional Tournament. That winning team then continues on to represent the USA in Williamsport, PA.
