Hot Flash: Ways to Keep Cool

Five Things You Need to Know Today: June 8.

  1. Baby, it’s hot out there. Temperatures to reach a  high of 84 degrees; mostly sunny, with a west wind blowing between 6 and 10 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Wear plenty of sunscreen and drink water. If you plan on walking outside after 11 p.m., be sure you can be seen, carry a flashlight, with the temperature dropping into the low 60s, there will be fog.
  2. Keep your eye on the tide. High tide in Nantucket Sound, Hyannis Port: 5:36 a.m., 6:14 p.m.;  low tide: 11:26 a.m. , 11:53 p.m. The sun rises at 5:36 a.m. and sets at 8:13 p.m. If only my bird dogs would sleep in past 4:30 a.m.! For more on tides, visit www.tides.info.
  3. Tips on how to beat the heat: Go to the beach, bring an umbrella and plenty of water. Wear a hat, sun block, and go swimming.
  4. Don’t feel like getting wet and sandy? Go the , read a book, check out a movie. If books aren’t your bag, people watch, power walk or shop at
  5. There is nothing quite as fun as skating on ice during the dog days of  summer. Go the s ice rink, if you skate, great, if you don’t skate, sit in the stands, but bring a hat and mittens just in case you get too cold.
