Hyannis Water Restrictions In Effect

Outdoor watering in Hyannis is restricted to odd days for odd-number addresses and even days for even-number addresses.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Hyannis officials on Monday announced outdoor watering restrictions ahead of a potential water shortage. The restrictions are as follows:

  • Outdoor watering is on an odd-even schedule, meaning watering by residents with odd-number addresses is restricted to odd days and watering by residents with even address is restricted to even days.
  • Outdoor watering if permitted only from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Filling of swimming pools in prohibited.

The Hyannis Water Board instituted the restrictions because "a potential for a water shortage exists due to the limited availability of water production wells and the need to purchase water from adjacent water systems," officials said in a statement.

The added the restrictions will "ensure an adequate supply of water for drinking and fire protection is available, and to ensure compliance with the Water Management Act."
