Man Records Video While Pulled Over for 'Texting and Driving'

Police have warned that they will be cracking down on drivers using phones while driving.

Wesley Daniel Price posted a cellphone video of himself while he was pulled over for… using a cellphone while driving.

While he remains calm about the situation, Price notes that he “just got pulled over by the Barnstable Police Department for, uh… theoretically, he said I was texting. I wasn’t, I was looking at a picture of my daughter on my phone.”

Massachusetts police have announced that they will be cracking down on drivers who use their phones on the road.

Price was pulled over on Route 132 in Hyannis. According to press release, the police will be targeting dangerous sections of the roadway with highly visible patrols.

Though the violation is often referred to as “texting and driving,” it includes drivers who use their phone to access apps, browse the internet, or to send and read messages. And you don’t have to be actively driving – you can be fined for using your phone even while stopped at a stop light.

The police officer in the video points out that this is the first monetary given he’s given out in two years. He says if the Price had just admitted what he was doing, he might’ve been let off with a warning.

Price is lucky he’s not a teenager: teens who violate the law can lose their licenses for up to a year.

During the entire stop, the Price’s dog, Pippin, hangs out in the backseat appears completely at ease. Pippin even greets the police officer when he delivers the ticket.

Price tells the officer he plans on fighting the ticket. If his main defense is that he wasn't texting, but looking at pictures, he's almost certainly going to be disappointed in traffic court.

There are a couple lessons we might draw from this video. First, if you’re the kind of person who is likely to film your own traffic stop when you were pulled over for using your phone, the police may be less likely to take it easy on you.

And second: the police are serious about stopping people who can’t be bothered to wait until they’re parked before they check their phones.
