While at Walter Reed, Rep. Keating visited with Navy Commander Francis T. Williams, a Sandwich resident, who is being treated there.

Last week, Commander Williams suffered a stroke while serving in Afghanistan; this was his third tour of duty since 2007.  Commander Williams, who is a Vietnam Veteran, is the Officer in Charge of the Naval Branch Health Clinic in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

“… I was overwhelmed by our students’ response to the Love Our Troops Campaign,” said Rep. Keating. “To have been able to share some of their valentines with Commander Williams – a distinguished member of our community – was very moving.  Commander Williams, like the other wounded warriors I visited [Tuesday], is a true American hero, and I was humbled by their strength and courage.  I also want to make mention of the superior medical attention provided by the men and women working at Walter Reed.  Their dedication to our service men and women should not go unnoticed.”

“The point of the Love Our Troops Campaign was to show our service men and women recovering at Walter Reed that we think of them always,” continued Rep. Keating. “The students’ notes were genuine and loving, and the gratitude they expressed to our men and women in uniform was remarkable.  I hope their notes reminded those recovering at Walter Reed of how thankful we are for their selflessness and sacrifices.”
