Five Things You Need to Know Today: June 7.

1. Be sure to wear sunscreen and get to the beach! Today features sun, lots of sun, with a high near 74 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. There will a golden breeze of 6 to 7 mph, maybe enough wind to fly a kite. A slight chance of rain predicted for tonight, with a forecast of evening fog around 11 p.m., will keep the weather interesting, if not romantic. Be sure to wear reflective tape on your clothing and carry a flashlight, if you are out walking at night.

2.  Sunrise: 5:07 a.m.; sunset: 8:13 p.m. Tides for Hyannis Port, Nantucket Sound: high tide: 4:42 a.m., 5:22 p.m.;  low tide: 10:34 a.m.; 10:56 p.m., according to tides.info.

3. Did you know the oldest library building in the United States can be found here in Barnstable? Take a tour of Sturgis Library, built in 1644. The tours are today at 11:30.m. and 2:00 p.m., at 3090 Main St., Barnstable. 

 4. Whales and Barnstable Harbor: From Hunting to Whale Watching, a free lecture tonight from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. by Captain Jonathan Brink, a senior naturalist for Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises, at Sturgis Library, 3090 Main St., Barnstable.

 5.  If you enjoy practicing Spanish and learning about the culture of Latin America and Spain, come to Chilean Night at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. Chilean Night is tonight from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, 307 Old Main St., South Yarmouth. Eduardo Vara, general manager of Best Valley Wines of Hingham, MA, will give a talk on Chilean Culture, the famous wine vineyards of Chile and Vino.  The event is $8 for public and $5 for members.
