Yarmouth Police Honor Sean Gannon In Final Radio Call

Police honored slain Yarmouth Officer Sean Gannon, who was shot and killed searching for a career criminal in Barnstable this month.

YARMOUTH, MA — "We have the watch from here." So marked the final radio call for Yarmouth Police Officer Sean Gannon, who was shot and killed earlier this month searching for a career criminal in Barnstable. Gannon, 32, was laid to rest last week and as tradition, police honored him with a final radio call to his patrol car. Gannon was posthumously promoted to sergeant.

"Sergeant Gannon served the town of Yarmouth, alongside his K-9 partner Nero, with honor, respect and courage," the dispatcher radioed. "K-9 Sergeant Gannon, thank you for your dedicated service to the town of Yarmouth. Thank you for your unwavering faith, love and service to your family, friends, community and all those you touched ... May you rest in peace sir. We have the watch from here."

Gannon's police dog Nero was also shot as the pair served an arrest warrant in the village of Marstons Mills April 12. The dog survived. Police said Thomas Latanowich, who has 125 criminal charges on his record, shot Gannon and his dog in the attic of a residence where he was hiding. Latanowich was charged with murder and mistreating a police dog.
