Bedford Cancels Town-wide Events Through 2020 Due To Coronavirus

The cancellation includes Bedford Day, Oktoberfest and the Citizen of the Year ceremony, among other events.

BEDFORD, MA β€” Bedford's Select Board voted on Monday to cancel all town-wide events for the rest of the year. The decision was made due to the coronavirus and based on "the interest of public health."

The cancellation includes, but isn't limited to Bedford Day, Oktoberfest, the Citizen of the Year ceremony, Veterans Day commemorations, road races (whether or not they are town-sponsored), and any indoor or outdoor event that typically draws large crowds.

In a COVID-19 update to the community, town officials said the fact that events are so popular and draw big crowds make it much harder to implement social distancing measures and ensure public safety.

"Cancelling some of Bedford’s most wonderful events was a decision that did not come lightly. The Select Board shares residents’ disappointment that these events and programming will not be held this year. We all look forward to being able to attend these types of gatherings again," the town said.
