Police Log: An Arrest at the V.A. Medical Center

Wednesday, Feb. 27
5:45 a.m.- The Bedford Police Department received multiple calls reporting a car had struck a utility pole near 24 Hillside Ave. Responding officers reported the crash was in front of 18 Hillside Ave and that no one was injured. The road was closed while NSTAR worked the clear the scene.Β

7:48 a.m.- Police received a call reporting a disabled vehicle near 18 North Road. The responding officer reported the vehicle had been moved from the road, and the owner was making arrangements to have it removed.Β
11:14 a.m.- A caller reported she had found a golden retriever in Shawsheen Cemetery. The caller agreed to hold onto the dog until the Animal Control Officer could come pick it up. At 12:47 p.m. a dog walker came into the police station to report she had lost the dog. The dog was returned, and the dog walker was notified town bylaw prohibits dog walking in the cemetery.

1:00 p.m.- BPD received a call from the Veterans Administration Police Department reporting they had a person at the V.A. Medical Center with an active Β warrant out of Quincy District Court. William Haplin, of 113 Sea Street in Weymouth, was placed under arrest.
7:20 p.m.- Police received separate calls from residents of Shawsheen and Liberty Road for reports of annoying calls.
Thursday, Feb. 28
1:19 a.m.- A caller reported he was flagged down by a motorist who had swerved off the road trying to avoid a deer near 508 Springs Road. The responding officer requested a tow truck to winch the car out. The officer then reported the individual was able to get their car back onto the road without the help of the tow truck.
2:03 a.m.- An officer reported the traffic lights on Great Road at the Great Road Shopping Center were not functioning properly. DPW was notified.
11:04 a.m.- Police received a call reporting a pickup truck doing donuts in the parking lot of Bedford High School. The responding officer reported he spoke with the owner of the vehicle who reported his truck was stuck in four wheel drive and he had been attempting to fix it.
12:16 p.m.- Β Police received a call from Davis Elementary School reporting an officer check on a student who did not show up for school. No one came to the door when an officer checked the child's residence.Β
10:20 p.m.- Police received a call from an employee of CVS reporting they had a shoplifter in custody.Β
