Have You Gotten a Flu Shot?

Flu vaccines are approximately 60 percent effective, according to a recent report.

 

Following the declaration of a health emergency in Boston earlier this week in light of 700 reported cases of the flu so far this season, some municipalities surrounding Boston have already run out of the flu vaccine.

The announcement sparked a rush to local pharmacies and town-sponsored clinics for flu shots.

However, while the vaccine may be the best way to protect yourself from contracting the flu, it is only effective approximately 60 percent of the time and may take up to two weeks to for the vaccine to become effective, according to a WBUR report.
