5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 3
Chocolate story time at the library, Sustainable Belmont meeting and a singalong.

1. Kids know: what doesn't taste better dipped in chocolate? Join Vicki Frassica of A Chocolate Dream in Belmont Center for stories and chocolate dipping from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. in the Flett Room (across from the Children's Room) at the Belmont Public Library. Today's program is for children in Kindergarten through Second Grade. Space is limited so please register by calling 617-993-2880. This fun activity is funded by the Friends of the Belmont Public Library.
2. A meeting of Sustainable Belmont will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Assembly Room of the Belmont Public Library. Sustainable Belmont is a group of concerned citizens and activists who seek to work with the town to implement steps to reduce its impact on climate change.
3. The Children's Room is offering Singalong with Julie from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Julie Goetz, singer and guitarist, has been entertaining children here for more than 20 years. The singing will is held at the Belmont Public Library.

4. Duplicate Bridge Club meets from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Beech Street Center at 266 Beech St. Every Wednesday the club holds American Contact Bridge League-sanctioned games. All are welcome to play. Cost is $5. Phone: 339-223-6484 for more information.
5. On this day 65 years ago in 1948, President Harry S. Truman signs the Marshall Plan, authorizing $5 billion in aid for 16 countries. This one act has been credited with saving western democracy by rebuilding European economies in order to prevent the spread of Soviet Communism after World War II. The goals of the plan was to rebuild a war-devastated region, remove trade barriers, modernize industry and make Europe prosperous again. When it ended, each of the 16 countries that received aid had stronger economies then before the war.
