5 Things You Need to Know Today: February 22

Blood drive at Beth El, stories at the Benton and "Do you believe in miracles? YES!"

1. A great way to end the school vacation: Belmont Community Blood Drive sponsored by Beth El Temple Center will take place from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Center at 2 Concord Ave. All presenting donors will receive a coupon for a free lunch pack at Cumberland Farms. To make an appointment, call 1-800-RedCross or visit redcrossblood.org And as always, walk-ins are welcome! You have to be 17 to give blood; 16 with your parents written permission. 

2. There will be colorful crafts and reading for three- to five-year-old children on the subject of "Fun Nature and Animal Stories" at the Benton Library starting at 10:30 a.m. Come and sit with the Benton Library staff. Learn, listen and be silly! Registration is not required.

3. "New/Old Group,"a photography exhibit featuring the work of artists Elaine Fisher, Eric Myrvaagnes and A. David Wunsch at the Belmont Gallery of Art on the third floor of the Homer Building in the Town Hall Complex, will be open this evening. Come see the exhibit before heading out for dinner.

4. Morning yoga, taught by professional instructors, is being held this morning from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Plymouth Congregational Church, 582 Pleasant St, in Gardiner Hall, at the back of the church. $10. All levels welcome just bring your own mat if you can. $6 per child for child care. All proceeds benefit Plymouth Nursery School.

5. On this day in 1980, the "Miracle on Ice" occurred in Lake Placid, New York, as the United States hockey team defeats the Soviet Union hockey team, 4-3, in the semi-finals of the Olympic Tournament.
