5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 8

Hemingway's "A Farewell to Arms," fun at the Benton and library and a quote by birthday boy Holmes.

1. It's one of the first memoriable scenes of the award-winning film "Silver Lining Playbook" where after reading Ernest Hemingway's "A Farewell to Arms," the character played by Bradley Cooper throws the book through the glass window and rants to this parents that he would not apologize for his actions but for Hemingway for writing such a depressing ending to his book. Found out what the fuss was all about as the Senior Book Discussion Group at the Beech Street Center will meet at 11 a.m. in the Center (the Belmont senior center) to discuss "A Farewell to Arms," by Ernest Hemingway.

2. Playtime is a drop-in, informal play group for toddlers and preschoolers that meets in the Children's Room of the Belmont Public Libraryfrom 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. It's where both children and adults can meet new friends. Call the Children's Room at 617-993-2880 with any questions.

3. It's another Friday morning filled with Fun Nature & Animal Stories at the Benton Library. Beginning at 10:30 a.m., Denise Patnod leds the reading and craft activities for children between 3 and 5 years old. So come join the Benton Library staff and learn, listen and be silly! Registration is not required but parents and/or caregivers must attend.

4. Yoga, taught by professional instructors, is being held this morning from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Plymouth Congregational Church, 582 Pleasant St. in Gardiner Hall, at the back of the church. $10. All levels welcome just bring your own mat if you can. $6 per child for child care. All proceeds benefit Plymouth Nursery School.
