Belmont Fire Log: Quiet Week Around Town

Anyone home?
March 18 – A few minutes before 4 p.m., firefighters were outside a Common Street two-family to help assist Belmont Police gain entry into the house to check on the well being of a resident. They didn't need to bother: no one was found inside the home.

March 19 – A bit past half past 10 a.m., Engine 1 and 2 were off up the hill to a Leicester Road single family were the crews shut off the natural gas supply to the house and unplugged the power to a malfunctioning gas cook top.

March 22 – Literally a second before 10 p.m., Engine 2 was sent to a single family on School Street after a residential fire alarm had sounded. Sure enough, firefighters reported that a smoke detector was making a racket inside of the second floor bedroom. But there was no smoke or fire throughout the home and the natural gas detector displayed normal readings, according to firefightrs. The incident was determined to be a smoke detector activation due to a malfunction. The homeowner states that he will replace his detector tomorrow.
