Belmont Week in Review: Special Town Meeting, Bids In on Woodfall Road, Chubby Chickens

Events that occurred in the past week in Belmont.

Belmont held its Special Town Meeting on Monday where it approved three of the four main articles before it: passing where a residential demolition delay bylaw on 149 homes, a homeowner snow removal bylaw and the financing for a new surface on Harris Field. Losing out by four voted was restrictions on yard sales. 

A local group headed by a Common Street real estate advisor and a Lexington developer has outbid a large regional builder by nearly three to one, $2.2 million vs. $750,000, for the right to build up to four upscale residential homes on town-owned property on Woodfall Road. 

After a terrible accident while riding his bike in which the driver was reportedly texting, a Belmont father is spearheading a unique effort to remind parents not to text and drive.

The Cubby Chickens dominated the annual Foundation for Belmont Education's  annual Spelling Bee.

Volunteers are being sought for the first-ever Dan Scharfman Memorial Run.

Belmont High's Boys' Soccer played toe-to-toe the best team in Eastern Massachusetts before losing 1-0 to North Andover High in the quarterfinals of the Division 2 North Sectionals. Two days before, the Marauders sank Dracut, 2-0 in an opening round game.
