📰 News we're reading

• Lodging House Faces Town Scrutiny (belmontvoice.org) — Belmont’s Select Board has granted only a three‑month renewal, instead of the usual year, for the town’s sole licensed lodging house on Common Street, tying it to back taxes, better screening, and property improvements. Neighbors’ safety concerns, increased police calls, and the needs of low‑income and disabled tenants all factored into the closely watched decision.

• With New Coach, Belmont Boys Basketball Eyes Upswing (belmontvoice.org) — Belmont High School’s boys basketball team is starting fresh under new head coach Danny Burns, who brings years of Middlesex League experience and an uptempo style. After last season’s 4–16 record, returning standout Braiden Dargon and a deep roster believe the Marauders can rediscover Belmont’s strong hoops tradition and push for a postseason run.

• Harvard and Brown Students Join in Vigil for Victims of Brown University Shooting (thecrimson.com) — A Brown University student from Belmont joined about 50 classmates and Harvard students at a Harvard vigil mourning two students killed in a recent campus shooting. The gathering, part of an Ivy League-wide observance, offered space for shared grief, reflection, and mutual support as investigations into the attack continue and security tightens at nearby Harvard.
