Clear Out Catch Basins Before Today's Rain

There is one thing for certain concerning snow fall; one day it's going to melt.

With 27 inches of snow deposited on Belmont during Friday and Saturday's blizzard combined with today's expected heavy rainfall – predictions call for up to a half-an-inch of precipitation falling on Belmont – there is an increased likelihood that town streets will become mini-flood zones as many catch basins are under several feet of snow. 

Both the town and the state's Emergency Management Agency encourages all residents to clear storm drains in their neighborhoods to minimize local flooding problems from the run-off.

The excess water is a danger as night-time temperatures will likely cause it to freeze creating ice patches for pedestrians and drivers.

In addition, accumulated water could create situations where basements of homes in low-lying areas could witness water migrating into the space. 

The town is also asking residents to clear-out fire hydrinds and make a path on sidewalks to allow pedestrians an option to the dangerous walking on the narrow roadways alongside vehicle traffic.
