The Votes are In: Belmont Town Election Results

The unofficial tally for all races including town-wide office and Town Meeting Representative.

The unofficial results from yesterday's Belmont Town Election have been tabulated by the Town Clerk's office. 

A pdf file of the results can be seen and downloaded from this Web page.

A hair under 2,500 voters – 2,499 in fact – of Belmont's 17,824 registered voters cast ballots on April 2.

That is a 14 percent turnout.

In the only competitive town-wide race, challenger Elyse Shuster and incumbent Laurie Slap tied in number of votes with 1,594 votes or 38.5 percent, beating back a strong challenge by 21-year-old Jamie Kang, a Belmont High School graduate and MIT senior, who was third with 947 votes.

And it wasn't to be for 18-year-old Belmont High School senior Chris Van Winkle who lost his battle for a one-year Town Meeting seat in Precinct 1 as he was beat by James Crawford, 162 to 97. 

Over in Precinct 5, a familiar name to anyone with school-age children who are in the arts, Arto Asadoorian, Belmont Public School's Fine Arts Director, was elected to Town Meeting.
