There's A Path: Community Path Forum Tonight

At Belmont High School's cafeteria beginning at 7 p.m.

The idea of a community path running the length of Belmont began more than two decades ago. And tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 27, the most recent group seeking to make that long-standing concept a reality will be holding a public get together to find out what residents would like – or not – to see in a town byway.

The Community Path Advisory Committee will be holding a public forum on a Belmont Community Path at the Belmont High School cafeteria from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The interactive forum, which will be led by Committee Chairman Jeffrey Roth, will allow residents to review maps of the town, propose community path routes, offer their own points of view and add suggestions in creating a potential multi-use – cycling/walking/jogging – paths through Belmont that could connect Belmont to existing and planned multi-use paths in adjacent communities and facilities throughout town.

The committee continues to sponsor an on-line survey asking a series of questions on what the public would like to see in a path. The survey will stay up until March 31.

The history of a path has been one of ostensible tribalism with one neighborhood along Channing Road having long expressed their displeasure of a path that would run along their property lines and the MBTA rail tracks while the topsy-turvy topography and the need to cross the tracks and Belmont Center have been a puzzlement for past attempts to placing a byway in the Town of Homes.
