This Weekend in Belmont: Bestselling Author Lisa Genova at Thirty Petals Saturday

Events and concerts on Saturday and Sunday in Belmont.

New York Times best-selling author and former Belmont resident Lisa Genova will be at Thirty Petals Boutique – where she was a long-time loyal customer of owner's Erica Kleinkopf clothes and accessories shop in Belmont Center – on Saturday April 6 at 3 p.m. for a book event.

Best known for her first book, "Still Alice." while her third book "Love Anthony" came out in paperback on April 2, coinciding with Autism Awareness Month. It is is a heartfelt story about an accidental friendship that gives a grieving mother a priceless gift: the ability to understand the thoughts of her eight-year-old autistic son and make sense of his brief life.

The Benton Library, Belmont's independent library run by volunteers, will be the venue for a performance of the musical "Annie!" performed by the Preble Garden Theater Club. The curtain goes up at 5 p.m.

Belmont's Powers Music School and Cambridge Savings Bank presents a musical storytelling program featuring Jarrett J. Krosoczka’s books "Punk Farm" and "Punk Farm on Tour" on Saturday, April 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the Belmont Public Library. Families are invited to attend this free story hour. Powers' Artistic Director Helen Clapp Stevenson will narriate with music performed by Yas Ishibashi, piano & vocals, Tev Stevig, banjo & guitar, Jim Doran, bass guitar, and Todd Brunel, drums, saxophone, and vocals.

Final two performances of "Grease" on Saturday

The two final performances of the Performing Arts Company of Belmont High School production of "Grease" will take place Saturday, April 6 at Belmont High School's auditorium. There is a matinee at 2 p.m. and the final performance at 7 p.m. 

Square Dance for Everyone ...

... is just that, just plain square dancing: No classes, no costumes, no commitment. Just bring $10 admission on Saturday, April 6 at 8 p.m. to Payson Park Church, 365 Belmont St. and get ready to allemande right and do-si-do. Newcomers are welcome, singles or couples. Called by Tony Parkes and music by Amy Cann and friends
