Unbeaten: Belmont, Landmark School's Belcher Wrestles To The Top
Unbeaten in league meets for four years, resident hopes for return to national prep championships.
John Belcher, Belmont resident and a senior at Landmark High School in Beverly, just completed a four year undefeated wrestling career in the competitive Eastern Independent League with a 32-0 record.
Belcher also led the team to a pair of consecutive season- and league-tournament championships in 2011 and 2012. (The 2013 event was cancelled due to the Feb. 2 blizzard.)
Belcher has been the team’s captain for the last two years and wrestled on the varsity for his four years at Landmark.

This season, Belcher’s achievements include an overall New England Conference Record of 23-3, second place at the Canterbury Tournament, and first place at the Northern New England Tournament.
Belcher is currently the fifth seed in the upcoming New England Championships at Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut and hopes to return to the National Prep School Wrestling Championships at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania for the third consecutive time.

“It’s been a pleasure to coach John for the past three years. He’s the rare type of kid that doesn’t just do what you ask him to do, he tries to do it to perfection. His work ethic has always impressed me and has been a great model for the younger kids,” said Landmark Head Coach Kyle Pietrowski
Landmark School is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school with elementary, middle, and college preparatory high school programs. It caters to students, grades 2 – 12, with language-based learning disabilities, such as dyslexia.
