Wendy Murphy at Woman's Club, Early Release for All Schools, MaKey MaKey, Food Drive

Events occurring in Belmont on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

1. Attorney and Belmont resident Wendy Murphy, author of And Justice for Some, will speak at the Belmont Woman's Club/Homer House, 661 Pleasant St. at 8 pm. She will be discussing Massachusetts' new anti-bullying law and whether or not it protects our children. This lecture is free and open to the public. Murphy is a victims' rights advocate, an adjunct professor of law at New England Law School and a well-known television legal analyst.

2. It's an Early Release Wednesday for all of Belmont's six schools. 10:30 a.m. for High School, 11 a.m. for Chenery Middle School and 11:40 a.m. for elementary schools with the exception of the Winn Brook which releases at 10 minutes until noon.

3. The Belmont Public Library is seeking inventors of all ages to join them in exploring MaKey MaKey, a simple Invention Kit which can turn everyday objects – let's say a sandwich – into touchpads or a game controller. Play "PacMan" with pencil and paper. Tinker with Scratch (scratch.mit.edu) to create your own video game. We’ll be inventing on Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Belmont Public Library’s Assembly Room today, Nov. 20, Dec. 4 and Dec. 11. Sign up for one, or all sessions. Space is limited and registration is required. 4. The Marauder Basketball Youth Clinic is running its 5th annual food drive to support the Belmont Food Pantry. Clinic participants and the community are encourage to bring one or two bags of groceries (What to Donate) to the Wenner Field House at Belmont High School from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. BHS basketball players will collect the groceries and deliver them to the pantry for the Thanksgiving season.

5. Duplicate Bridge Club meets from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Beech Street Center every Wednesday. The club holds American Contact Bridge League-sanctioned games in which all are welcome to play. Cost is $5. Phone: 339-223-6484 for more information.
